Derrick Ernst Neighbourhood Centre
Derrick Ernst Neighbourhood Centre is proudly one of only three Occasional Care providers in Perth. This distinctive model makes flexible childcare available to families living and working in surrounding suburbs. Derrick Ernst Neighbourhood Centre has provided flexible and affordable childcare, alongside community engagement and support services, in the Bayswater area since 1985.
The Centre employs 12 welcoming and experienced educators to provide childcare for up to 38 children ages 0-6. Our excellent retention of qualified staff provides children with the relational stability needed to build trust and confidence outside of the home environment.
Our new building was recently completed in 2016. We have three, bright and vibrant, purpose built indoor/outdoor activity areas, suited to babies, toddlers and kindy. The Centre’s inclusive design makes our service fully accessible to children with disabilities and additional needs.
Hours of Operation & Fees
- Families have the ability to book on a casual or permanent basis, only pay for the hours they use and there are no charges for cancellations or public holidays.
- $20 per hour before Child Subsidy is applied. Monday to Friday 8.00am to 4.30pm
- The centre is closed on public holidays and over the Christmas and New Year period.
Enrolment & Orientation
Everyone is welcome to come and take a tour of the centre at any time (no bookings necessary for this). We will happily show you the centre and introduce you to the Educators who would be caring for your child.
For the enrolment process you will be asked to bring along to the centre with you your child’s immunisation record and birth certificate, we can photocopy these at the centre for you. We will also need your Family Customer Reference Number (CRN) and your child’s CRN which can be obtained from the Family Assistance Office.
We always recommend that you book your child in for short periods of time to begin with (1/2 an hour to an hour maximum), to familiarise them with the new environment and the other children and Educators. This will make for an easier transition for your child and help.
